Build It Right Remodeling is an owner-operated design-build remodeler working throughout Nashotah and the Lake Country communities. Brian and Tammy Blankenheim started the company in 2009. Brian began in carpentry in 1996 and earned his Journeyman Carpenter title with Local 344 in Pewaukee in 2001.
He designs your project and he is on site while it is built. There is no sales team, no project coordinator, and no point where you get handed to someone else.
What we do, and what we do not
We remodel kitchens, bathrooms, first floors, basements, and whole homes. We do not do additions, decks, siding, or exterior work of any kind.
Saying that plainly matters more than it sounds. Interior remodeling is where design and construction have to stay tied together, and keeping the scope there is what lets the same person carry a project from the first sketch to the last walkthrough.
Designed before it is built
Every project starts in Chief Architect and is rendered in Twinmotion. You receive 2D floor plans, 3D renderings, elevations, and electrical layouts, and you approve the finished result before demolition.
Roughly 95 percent of our designs are produced in house. That is not a convenience, it is how the schedule and the budget stay predictable, because the decisions that blow up a remodel are the ones made after the walls are already open.
Nashotah houses
The homes here vary more than the size of the village suggests. Properties near Forest Lake and Garvin Lake tend to be older and expanded in phases, while the newer streets carry late-century floor plans with closed kitchens and formal rooms that go unused.
Both respond well to remodeling, and both reward planning. We confirm what is actually behind the walls during design so the plan reflects the house you own rather than the house the drawings describe.
Through the project
You get a JobTread portal with daily logs, photos, schedules, documents, and messaging in one place. Brian works with demo and trade partners he has used for years.
Three and a half to four month projects finish within four to five days of the original date, with no punch list at the end. Workmanship is backed by a one-year warranty and a final walkthrough.

Our History in Nashotah
Nashotah is one of the smaller villages in Lake Country, wrapped around the Nashotah lakes and best known regionally for the seminary that has stood here since the 1840s. It never had a single development boom, and the housing shows it.
Homes near Forest Lake and Garvin Lake follow the pattern common across these lakes. Many began as modest seasonal places and were converted to year-round use, then expanded a piece at a time as families grew. Framing and mechanical systems change between sections, and ceiling heights and floor levels often step where one era of construction meets another.
Away from the water, the newer streets were built to the floor plans of their decade. Those homes have square footage and use it poorly, with kitchens walled off from living space and formal dining rooms that see a few dinners a year.
Nashotah is small enough that we know the streets, and close enough to Oconomowoc that a ten minute drive puts Brian on your site. For a village of a few hundred households, that proximity does more for a project than any amount of process.

Is Nashotah inside your service area?
Yes. We are based in Oconomowoc, roughly ten minutes away, and Nashotah sits inside our core service area along with Delafield, Hartland, Okauchee Lake, and Pewaukee. Being close means Brian is on site regularly rather than checking in occasionally.
Can you finish a basement?
Yes, basements are one of our core project types along with kitchens, bathrooms, first floors, and whole-home remodels. Lower levels in this area often need moisture, egress, and ceiling height addressed before the finish work, and we sort all of that out during design.
How much of the design happens in house?
About 95 percent. Brian produces the floor plans, 3D renderings, elevations, and electrical layouts himself using Chief Architect and Twinmotion. Because the person designing the project is also the person running it on site, the drawings reflect what can actually be built.
What happens at the end of the project?
We do a final walkthrough together. There is normally no punch list waiting, because Brian handles issues as they come up during construction rather than saving them for the end. Workmanship is covered by a one-year warranty after the walkthrough.
