Quality Remodeling Services in Okauchee Lake

Love your spot on the lake but not your floor plan? That is the situation most Okauchee Lake homeowners are in when they call us.

The location is not the problem. The house is a collection of decisions made by people who owned it before you, and it no longer fits how you live.

Build It Right Remodeling is an owner-operated design-build remodeler based a few minutes away in Oconomowoc. Brian and Tammy Blankenheim founded the company in 2009. Brian began his carpentry career in 1996 and earned his Journeyman Carpenter title with Local 344 in Pewaukee in 2001.

Brian designs the project himself and is on site nearly every day while it is built. You deal with him directly from the first call to the final walkthrough.

What we remodel

We work on kitchens, bathrooms, first-floor remodels, basements, and whole-home remodels for Okauchee Lake homeowners. We do not do additions, decks, siding, or other exterior work, and being clear about that up front saves everyone time.

What that focus buys you is depth. Interior remodeling is where design decisions compound, and it is where having the person who drew the plan standing in the room during construction actually changes the result.

Lake houses are their own category

Much of the housing around Okauchee Lake started smaller and grew in stages. A seasonal cottage became a year-round home, then took on an addition, then a finished lower level, and each phase was framed by different hands to different standards.

That history is why we spend real time on design before touching anything. Structural surprises are common in homes near Okauchee Lions Community Park and the lanes running down to the water, and the difference between a project that stays on budget and one that does not is usually whether those surprises were found during planning or during demolition.

The same holds for the properties set back toward Garvin Lake, where lots are deeper and the houses have been added onto in more phases. Okauchee Lake rewards patience at the design table.

You see it before we build it

Every project is designed in Chief Architect and rendered in Twinmotion. You get 2D floor plans, 3D renderings, elevations, and electrical layouts, so you approve the finished space while it is still just a file.

How the work runs

Your project lives in a JobTread portal with daily logs, photos, schedules, documents, and messaging in one place. Brian works with a demo team and trade partners he has trusted for years rather than an in-house crew.

Projects running three and a half to four months finish within four to five days of the date we set at the beginning. There is no punch list at the end, because things get fixed as they come up. Workmanship carries a one-year warranty backed by a final walkthrough.

Start with kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement remodeling, or a full whole-home remodel. Every one of them begins with remodeling design.

Send us your Okauchee Lake floor plan and we will show you what the house can actually do.

Our Okauchee Lake Remodeling Services

Whole Home Remodeling

If your home no longer fits your lifestyle but you love where you live, a whole-home remodel can make every room work better for you. Whether you're craving an open layout, more space, or an updated look, our team can help you transform your house into the home you've always imagined.

Kitchen Remodeling

We hear it all the time from Waukesha County homeowners: “Our kitchen just doesn't work for us anymore.” Whether it's the layout, storage, or style that's the problem, we design and build solutions that make your kitchen more functional and inviting.

Bathroom Remodeling

Homeowners across Waukesha County often tell us their bathrooms feel outdated, lack storage, or are just too cramped. Our bathroom remodeling services are built to address those exact frustrations with thoughtful design and high-quality craftsmanship.

Basement Remodeling

You do not have to move to get the space you need. If your basement is still just storage, the square footage you are looking for is probably already under your roof. We finish unfinished basements into bedrooms, bathrooms, and entertaining spaces built for how your family actually lives.

First Floor Remodeling

If your first floor feels like a maze of small, disconnected rooms, you are not alone. Homes built between the 1960s and the 1990s across Waukesha County were designed for a different way of living. We open up the space, rebuild the kitchen at its center, and bring your whole main level together.

Remodeling Design

Every good remodel starts with a good plan. Brian produces accurate 2D floor plans and 3D renderings in house using Chief Architect and Twinmotion, so you can see every detail of the finished space before construction begins and settle the expensive decisions while they are still free to change.

Our History in Okauchee Lake

Okauchee Lake sits in the middle of the Lake Country chain, and its housing grew out of a resort era rather than a subdivision plan. Much of what stands today started as seasonal cottages built close to the water, on lots laid out long before anyone expected these to be full-time homes.

Over the following decades most of them were winterized and expanded. A back bedroom here, a lower level finished there, a kitchen pushed out a few feet in the 1980s. The result is a housing stock with real character and very little internal consistency, where framing, insulation, and mechanical systems can change from one room to the next.

That is the defining fact of remodeling here. A wall that looks like a partition may be carrying load from an addition. Ceiling heights step. Plumbing takes routes that only made sense to the person who ran it. None of this makes a project impossible, and all of it makes the design phase worth doing properly.

The lanes running down to the water add a practical constraint most inland projects never deal with. They are narrow, some are shared, and a few are barely wide enough for a dumpster and a delivery truck on the same day. We sort out staging and access during planning, because on a tight lake lot that is a scheduling question, not a detail.

Frequently Asked Questions - Okauchee Lake Remodeling

Do you work on lake homes around Okauchee Lake?

Yes. We are based in Oconomowoc, a few minutes away, and lake homes are a regular part of our work. They usually involve more discovery during design because of how they were expanded over the years, and we build that into the plan rather than treating it as a surprise.

What kinds of remodels do you take on?

Kitchens, bathrooms, first-floor remodels, basements, and whole-home remodels. We do not take on additions, decks, siding, landscaping, or other exterior work. Keeping our scope to interior remodeling is what lets us run the design and the build with the same person.

Will I see the design before construction starts?

Yes, and this is central to how we work. Brian produces 2D floor plans, 3D renderings, elevations, and electrical layouts in house using Chief Architect and Twinmotion, so you walk through the finished space visually and approve it while changes are still free.

How do you keep me updated during the project?

Every project runs through JobTread, a client portal holding daily logs, photos, the schedule, documents, and messages in one place. Brian handles your communication directly and is on site nearly every day, so questions get answered by the person doing the work.
